Report of the seventh JC of 05/16/2025, the PhenoGeno project

The seventh meeting of the Journal Club was held on Friday, May 16. The topic of the meeting was two scientific papers: "Infrared spectroscopy coupled with machine learning algorithms for predicting the detailed milk mineral profile in dairy cattle" (Bisutti et al., 2024) and "Genomic partitioning of inbreeding depression in humans" (Yengo et al., 2024). The presentation of the work by Yengo et al. held by prof. Ph.D. sc. Maja Ferenčaković, while the work of Bisutti et al. presented by colleague Zvonimir Mijadžiković. Both papers are extremely interesting and closely related to the topics and research directions of the PhenoGeno project, which is why their discussion within the Journal Club was extremely important. The meeting was very productive, it raised a number of questions and opened new topics for discussion, which indicates the importance and topicality of the scientific problems addressed. Particularly highlighted are phenotypic data related to the mineral composition of dairy cow milk and the impact of genomic component inbreeding depression on the human population, further emphasizing the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in research within the PhenoGeno project.
