Report of the tenth GAbridge project journal club, September 2nd, 2025

 

The tenth GAbridge journal club took place on Tuesday, September 2nd, 2025. PhD student Ivana Keršić presented the paper "Temporal variation in coat color (genotypes) supports major changes in the Nordic cattle population after Iron Age" (Niemi et al., 2016), in which allelic variants of the coat color gene in cattle (MC1R) are analyzed on ancient cattle samples. The topic of the work is very unique because similar analyses were mostly performed on other species, such as horses, but not on cattle. The group discussed the strategy of analysis in the work and how to improve it within the framework and goals of the Gabridge project, but the topic is also important for the Ivana's doctoral research.
