Report of the seventeenth GAbridge project journal club, February 26th, 2026

 

The seventeenth GAbridge journal club took place on Thursday, February 26th, 2026. PhD student Ivana Keršić presented the paper "Genome of the extinct Gotland cattle breed" (Johnsson i Johansson, 2025). The paper is very interesting as it deals with "younger" samples of ancient DNA, but of cattle representing a recently extinct breed of cattle, with the samples coming from a museum with similar storage and curation conditions to many of the samples present within our project. This is especially interesting in regards to the conservation biology aims of our projects, and very important for Ivana's PhD thesis dealing with croatian indigenous cattle breeds.
