Report of the twenty-second GAbridge project journal club, June 25th, 2026
The twenty-second GAbridge project journal club meeting took place on Thursday, June 26th, 2026. PhD student Ivana Keršić presented the paper "The Role of Ancient DNA Research in Archaeology" (Downes, 2021). This is the first paper of its kind at our journal club meetings, which belongs to the field of epistemology and philosophy of science, and is interesting to the group because of the interdisciplinary core of our research in archaeogenetics. The paper cautions against excessive optimism and misinterpretation of the results of sequencing and computer analyses of ancient DNA sequences in archaeogenetic studies, along with suggestions for better integration. The paper served as a good basis for discussion, but also as proof of our research group's good practices in an effort to integrate archeology and genetics into a common research goal.
